Oh calcutta!

June 5, 2009
There has has been a lot of complains flowing in, due the language i use in my blog, which perhaps is beyond basic understandibility. dear i took note of that.i would try and do it in as simple words as possible today.
It’s been 5 years living in Calcutta what they call the city of joy, and from time immemorial I realized that I was nowhere near my place or indeed anywhere else I had been before. time flew by just like that. college got over. was a graduate then and now a post graduate. A mba or an icfai finance(thanks to someone who gave us that credential). but this is not all i have got in this short stint of mine in this city. so what facinates me about this city?? nothing really. a metropolitan with a soul of a village. those tea stalls at every corner, adda as they call it.a great night life where lights go off at the strike of ten. move out on the streets and suddenly you hear a loud cry “bhombol” yes thats a pet name . bengali moms have taken an oath to beat up the etire reputation of their kids right at thier inception by giving them brave and audacious nicknames.imagine something like your name is indrajeet and correspondingly  your nickname boils up to poltu. no matter what you achieve in life, thats gonna haunt you and no one ever is going to take you seriously. now the favaurite food here., no points for guessing that “fish”. i remember  how i managed to eat it the first time. trust me that was the last time too. a government which ceases to change and so is the state of the state. hunger strikes right in the middle of the city, gheraws are a common feature here. this city has given some of the greatest leaders to our current cradle of politicians. yes i am talking about mamata di. hats of to you mam. you are a living proof of how to be in the opposition and still manage to dictate terms….
to be continued…..

  1. “a metropolitan with a soul of a village”

Really really nicely written and I have to agree with you on everything!

Bhombol? That really is a name?!!

Really nicely written, Nishant and I can’t wait to read the continuation!

    • :) …thanks mini

    • and yes thats a name…the continuation will come soon..:)

  2. hey dude, I think somewhere you didn\’t get that all right… may be it\’s the city with \”a soul of a village\” but like the human nature it\’s also undergoing the required metamorphosis… so next time you write about this VILLE (as you may or I should say you will call it !), I would expect you to write something about the changes.

As far as the naming convention goes, I think how funny it may sound it\’s a petname after all and the petnames are given without considering the fact whether it sounds cool to the ears…
